The short answer
How do you choose a commercial laundry when every one of them says reliable? You ask seven specific questions, and you listen for specific answers.
After two decades on the other side of these conversations, we know exactly which questions separate the good operations from the rest. Ask us all seven too.
The answer should be barcoding, scanned in and scanned out. Counting by hand is how linen goes missing.
A straight number, with a faster option. Ours is 24, 48 or 72 hours, agreed with you when the account is set up.
You should not be. A laundry that needs a contract to keep you is telling you something.
Pressing should be standard, with hand finishing available where the linen justifies it.
It should be rewashed automatically, then flagged honestly if it survives. Hidden stains wreck stock counts.
Itemised, per batch, so you can see exactly what you paid for. Vague monthly totals hide creep.
A person who knows your account. At CLR that is Philip and the team, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Ask where the laundry actually is. Northern Ireland is small, but a van coming from the other end of it is a van that can be late, and you will never be the priority stop.
CLR runs from two places: the laundry at Cullybackey near Ballymena, and a second depot at Bushmills on the coast. That is why the North Coast and mid Antrim are easy for us, and why Belfast, Newry and Armagh are on scheduled runs rather than favours.
Ask the same question of anyone you are considering. If the answer is vague, that tells you what your collection day will look like in July.
When owners tell us why they finally stopped doing their own linen, it is almost never the washing. It is the ironing.
Washing is a machine and a timer. Ironing is a person, standing there, for hours, every week, and it is the job nobody wants.
That is the hidden number to put against any laundry quote: not the electricity, but the hours somebody is spending at an ironing board instead of running the business.
Price matters, but the cheapest operators are usually the high-volume factories. If the quality of your linen is something your customers notice, weigh the answers above at least as heavily.
Send one representative week of linen with no commitment. A contract-free laundry will happily be judged on it.
Barcoded, 24, 48 or 72 hour turnaround, contract free, pressing included, honest stain labelling, itemised direct debit billing, and Philip answers. Hold us to it.
Seven questions, ten minutes, and you will know exactly who you are trusting your linen to.
We are happy to be asked all seven.
