The short answer
What do diners actually notice about table linen? Two things: the press and the white. A crisply pressed cloth with a clean drop reads as care before the menu ever arrives.
We launder table linen for restaurants across Northern Ireland, so we know exactly where standards slip and how to keep them.
Tablecloths are hard to wash. They are big, they crease, and they take the worst of red wine and candle wax. The finish then comes from commercial pressing, which is the visible difference between laundered and merely washed.
Every cloth and napkin we return is pressed and ready for the table.
White table linen shows everything, which is why it needs commercial temperatures and proper detergent dosing rather than a domestic cycle. That is what gets cloths and napkins genuinely white and keeps them that way.
Anything that needs a rewash gets one automatically.
If a stain will not lift, we label the item and tell you. A stained cloth hidden in the middle of a stack helps nobody on a busy Saturday.
Barcoding keeps your counts true, because every item is scanned in and out.
A Belfast or Lisburn dining room turns steady covers all year, so its linen stock can be sized once and left alone.
On the coast it swings. A restaurant in Portrush, Portstewart or Ballycastle can do more covers in a week in July than in the whole of March, and a stock built for the quiet months falls apart in the summer.
The fix is the same either way: count your busiest realistic service, not your average one, and build the stock to that.
A tablecloth is one of the hardest items in the building to launder well, which is why running short of them hurts more than running short of almost anything else.
Hold at least three sets: one on the tables, one on the shelf, one at the laundry. Two leaves you re-laying a table with a damp cloth.
Napkins turn over faster than cloths, so keep deeper stock of those again.
After every use. How often they are collected depends on your covers, and you agree that with your laundry.
